UPDATE: The "owner's" response just proved my point. RUDE and ARROGANT with little business sense. No wonder Montague Wine & Spirits got a measly 138(!!!) followers on Facebook. Instead of acting like Scrooge and screaming at people on "his" sidewalk, he should've been inviting them to visit his store for "free wine tasting," or offer a discount for animal lovers. What's ironic is that the Cat Cafe next door is doing magnificently: people actually PAY to visit the cafe to watch the cats. Imagine that! Paying for the privilege of watching cats!! The afternoon I was there, there were people waiting to pick up their pets AND people waiting to visit the cafe. Two long lines. There were also a few people who were passing by who asked why the lines. When told it was a Cat Cafe, their response: "Cool! We'll come back" while they took pictures of the window with the cats. The cafe is NOT a business, yet their friendly and welcoming approach is gaining them more followers and potential adopters. Montague Wine & Spirits could learn from them. ----------- The prices might be good, though they are better in my neighborhood. Their selection is not bad. What this store is sorely lacking is COURTESY. The "owner" and staff are condescending and arrogant and need a lesson or two on good manners and on how to run a business where there's already competition. Wouldn't recommend.

I’m just leaving this liquor store after purchasing a bottle and my experience here was quite unsettling. I’ve never written a review for anything, but after confronting the workers about what they did I’m still uncomfortable and felt the need to share. One, I asked where the tequila section was and both workers dismissed me, so I went to look for it myself. As I’m looking around, one of the employees was eyeing me down as if I planned on stealing (only observing me while there were other customers in the store), but I ignored the feeling and assumed it was just in my head. Then, the main reason I was influenced in writing this review, as I tapped my card on the scanner, the employee who was hovering over me signed for me. It wasn’t as if I walked away without signing, it was 0.5 seconds after I tapped my card. No one should sign for you, especially if I’m right there to sign for myself. It felt like he was rushing for me to leave. I’m a quiet guy, I was really minding my business, so I can’t think of a reason why they would act this way. I understand if you don’t like your job, but something about this experience feels racially motivated. Both workers were white males. I didn’t feel heard and singing for me was a violation. Things could’ve been so simple, I could’ve just picked up a bottle and went about my day, but these two workers used their energy to make me uncomfortable while being VERY WELCOMING to everyone else who entered (white customers). Only saying this for anyone who may be of color entering this establishment. Would give this ZERO stars if it was an option.

Just moved to the neighborhood and have been a couple times. Both times the person who helped me was SO knowledgeable. True connoisseur. Picked me out a wine in my price point that I would have never noticed before and it’s quite honestly one of the best I’ve had!

I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. Best wine and liquor selection, great service and they about 15% less expensive than all other shops in the area.
